"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?"
Vincent van Gogh
Choose a figure. Start somewhere.
Every Pulpo Night begins with a figure in front of you and a table full of colour.
You choose the one that catches your eye, pick up a brush and start making it yours. There is no right way to paint it and no need to arrive with an idea.
The figure simply gives the evening somewhere to begin.
Let the night find its own rhythm.
Once you start painting, everything else tends to settle around it.
You might spend most of the night absorbed in your figure or find yourself talking with someone across the table while your paint dries.
Pulpo gives you something to come back to, so there is never any pressure for the evening to be more than what it naturally becomes.
Take a piece of the night home.
By the end of the evening, the figure holds more than the paint you put on it.
It has been there while the night unfolded around you, slowly becoming something that could only have been made in that moment.
When it comes home with you, a little of that time comes with it.
