Frequently Asked Questions
Figures & Painting
Where are Pulpo figures made?
Every Pulpo figure is cast by hand from mineral plaster in our Berlin studio.
Because each piece is handmade, small bubbles, soft edges and slight differences between figures can happen naturally. No two are exactly the same.
What comes with my figure?
Your figure arrives unpainted and ready for you to make it your own.
Paint, brushes and sealant are not included unless the product listing says otherwise. Paint kits can be purchased separately.
What can I use to paint my figure?
Acrylic paint works especially well, but you can also use watercolours, gouache or markers.
No primer is needed. If you want to protect your finished design, you can add a clear varnish once the paint is completely dry.
How much paint do I need?
Our Paint Set comes with 12 colours, 3 ml each, plus 2 brushes and a paint palette.
One set is designed to give you plenty to work with for a Pulpo figure. In most cases, it is enough for one figure of any size, with paint left over — and for smaller figures, you may be able to paint more than one.
How far the paint goes will depend on your design, the colours you use and how many layers you add.
Do I need to be good at painting?
Not at all.
There is no right way for a Pulpo figure to turn out. You can plan every detail or simply start with a colour and see where it takes you.
Why does my figure look slightly different from the photo?
Every Pulpo figure is cast and finished by hand, so small variations in texture, shape and surface details are completely normal.
Your figure is already slightly its own before you start painting it.
Pulpo Nights & Events
What is a Pulpo Night?
A pulpo Night is another way to spend an evening in Berlin.
You choose a figure, sit down with your paints and let the night unfold from there. The figure gives you something to return to while conversation happens around it, making it easy to settle into the moment without needing the evening to become anything more than that.
pulpo Nights take place in different spaces around the city and are built around the simple idea of spending time together while making something with your hands.
Do I need any painting experience?
No experience is needed.
Pulpo Nights are for anyone who feels like spending some time making something by hand. You can arrive with an idea or decide everything once you sit down.
Can I come to a Pulpo Night alone?
Absolutely.
Pulpo was created to feel just as natural to arrive alone as it does to come with someone else.
Having something in front of you changes the feeling of being in a room. You can become absorbed in what you are making, look up when you feel like talking, and let the evening move at your own pace.
There is no expectation to perform socially or to arrive knowing anyone. You already have a place at the table.
Can I take my figure home afterwards?
Yes.
Your finished figure is yours to take home at the end.
Can I book Pulpo for a private event?
Yes.
Pulpo can come to private events, celebrations, pop-ups and other creative gatherings around Berlin.
Get in touch through our contact page and tell us a little about what you have in mind.
Good to Know
Are Pulpo figures toys?
No.
Pulpo figures are decorative objects intended for creative and decorative use only. They have not been designed, tested or certified as toys and are not suitable for children under 14 years.
Plaster is hard and brittle, so figures can break if dropped. Broken pieces may have sharp edges and should be disposed of carefully.
Can children paint Pulpo figures?
Pulpo figures are intended for ages 14+.
For Pulpo Nights, markets and pop-ups, please check the individual event information as age requirements may vary depending on the venue or format.
What should I do if my figure arrives damaged?
If your figure has been damaged during delivery, contact us as soon as possible with your order number and a photo of the damaged item.
We will take a look and help you from there.
